Silencing the snooze: Overcoming Procrastination Patterns in the Writer's Routine
Are you a victim of the "Snooze Effect"?
PAUSE,
Are you a victim of the ‘snooze effect’ like me?
For a good part of my life, not one morning went by without me hitting the snooze button on my alarm. I would purposefully set my alarm early enough so that I could have the satisfaction of snoozing it a couple of times before I finally got up and out of my bed.
What I like to call the ‘snooze effect’ translated into many parts of my day therefore also in many areas of my life.
By consistently snoozing my morning alarm, I started to realize a pattern.
I would subconsciously hit the snooze button on morning practices that I knew would help me get a better start to my day…
I would snooze going to the gym (one of my happy places) thinking that I would get around to it later in the week (which rarely happened)…
I would snooze taking the time to organize my busy schedule leading to a ton of missed or forgotten plans and commitments…
Most importantly I would hit the snooze button of taking action on some of the awesome ideas that I knew had GREAT potential if I gave them time and effort…
I was essentially hitting the snooze button on my life.
PERSPECTIVE.
One awesome feature on most alarm systems is the ability to disable the snooze option.
In our lives, becoming aware of the patterns that follow the ‘snoozing effect’ also known as procrastination is how we disable this option.
Now once we become aware, we must then DECIDE to take action that brings us more satisfaction then hitting that snooze button.
After I disabled the snooze option I noticed some changes.
My morning’s started off better, I got more time in a space that filled me up and I was able to get a better grip on my schedule.
Most importantly I was able to finally write my first spiritual growth and development book

WRITER!
On your journey to writing your best book, make the decision that you will no longer push this desire to another day.
Take action today by setting aside time to simply think about your idea and then write your thoughts down.
No matter what part of the book writing process you are in, having time with your thoughts and ideas is time well spent.
Happy Writing!
